We’re finally live…
So it took a little while, but we’re finally up representing Detroit. I’m here to offer the international perspective. I live in downtown Windsor, Ontario, Canada. For those of you unfamiliar with the area, that means I live about 3 miles from the heart of Downtown.
One of my favorite things about Detroit is the high number of top quality public art and sculptures. Most of them date back to the “City Beautiful” Movement era, but they are still phenomenal. Just the other day I was on my way to a Tigers game, walking through Grand Circus Park and I was looking at the Russell Alger Fountain. The fountain has a wonderful bronze statue on it. I was looking at it and trying to find a signature, when I stumbled across it on the back. It said right there “D.C. French 1920”.
Wow! I never knew that there was a Daniel Chester French Sculpture hanging out downtown…
D.C.F. was once of the most important American Sculptors, and the detail on his work is amazing, one of my personal favorites. There is an excellent website on his work here, if you’re not familiar with him: http://www.yeodoug.com/resources/dc_french/daniel_chester_french.html
Truly a great artist, and another example of why I love Detroit.
