Fire Department Layoffs
More fire department closings have hit Detroit After layoffs back in July, another 75 firefighters are losing their jobs. Now at any time there will be 247 firefighters instead of 266.
I spent some time talking with Detroit Firefighters back in June after the Studebaker fire. (Photos) The firefighters expressed real legitimate concerns about the coverage the fire department could provide with the cuts. Although worried about their jobs, they were more worried about their ability to manage fires and keep residents and firefighters safe with less firefighters.
It is an issue. We should be concerned too.
