Big Blue Bridges

On your way to the Airport from Detroit you will behold two new additions: a pair of monstrous but beautiful blue suspension bridges that span a portion of I-94. Construction had piqued much curiosity in me over the past few months and also elicited fear that the structure was actually a public art project for Superbowl visitors.     I have been following the progression of these blue bridges, and saw them for the first time a few months ago. I think it is a pretty cool thing that’s being done. I read somewhere that they are supposed to elicit a “Welcome to Detroit!” feeling for visitors heading into the city.

    Bridges go over water. What MDOT built is a fancy viaduct.

    Of course the Mackinac Bridge is going to need some serious work in coming years, I hope we can afford it.
