I wondered the same thing, too! No offense to the Ducks, I just don’t understand why they are being marketed in the D…perhaps Lamar made an error??

I too was confused by this, so I decided to email the University of Oregon Ducks via the website listed on the billboard. My email was as follows:
Hello,
Recently, I was driving down a local expressway in Detroit and noticed a billboard for The University of Oregon and goducks.com.
Now, the question is – why is there a billboard for the University of Oregon Ducks in Detroit? I checked the schedule, and I don’t even think you play any local teams. Is this some sort of pre-SuperBowl ploy? Or perhaps a way to confuse metro Detroiters as they drive in to work each other? Maybe a clever recruiting technique? I don’t know.
All I know is that is an effective way to drive traffic to your site, look, here I am.
I’m not sure if this email is even going to the right place, but I hope it will reach someone in marketing that can explain how this billboard came to be.
I appreciate your time, and hopefully I can get an answer to my question.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Pawelek

It’s Malik Hairston, he went to Detroit Renaissance and is now a sophomore at Oregon.

“What the Duck?!” come on Tiki, maybe you thought that title would “quack” your readers up, but I for one am not “down” with such an obvious pun being passed as true wit. Since you are usually much more clever – I guess I will let this one go…you know…like water off…a…well…duck’s back…
lol
;)

Stacey pointed it out, but believe it or not, I actually got a response from them!
Here it is:
Dear Jeremy,
It’s helpful to know that the billboard piqued your interest and has served some of its purpose. The billboard is placed in Detroit because Malik Hairston, the men’s basketball student-athlete featured on the board, is from Detroit. The billboard promotes the O Zone at http://www.GoDucks.com, our online audio and video subscription service. On the O Zone, you can listen to almost all Oregon football, men’s and women’s basketball games live and watch some games live or on a delayed basis from anywhere, including Detroit, as long as you have an account and internet access (the faster the better).
Thanks for your interest in Oregon Athletics! Go Ducks!
Detroit Census Triplication Mollika* I had to return a fourth survey. I am representing the non-Doctor Indian population of Detroit :0) likwidshoe It’s all about representation, not funding. Detroiters needs to lose the entitlement mindset.
