Detroit gets its angel on

“Detroit is looking for individuals and organizations to participate in the 2005 Angels’ Night campaign to patrol neighborhoods, turn on porch lights and keep an eye out for suspicious activity. The annual three-day volunteer initiative begins at 6 p.m. Oct. 29 and continues until dawn Nov. 1. To volunteer, call (313) 224-4415.” Courtesy Detroit news

Back in the day Detroit used to burn down as many as 800 houses on the night before Halloween. Since the 90’s the counter movement, aptly named “Angel’s night” has curbed the pyromaniacal tendencies of the local a-holes; we actually have less fires on that night than on an average Detoit evening. Its interesting how when an entire community takes responsibility for their area crime goes down and civility goes up…I wonder how that would work if it were done the other 364…
