Katrina Evacuee Center Opened in Detroit

The Detroit News had a small blurb in yesterday’s online edition about the newly-opened Detroit/Wayne County Hurricane Evacuee Reception and Assistance Center at the Coleman A. Young International Airport (formerly Detroit City Airport).

The center, which opened last week, aims to assist Detroit-based Katrina evacuees that have yet to register with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Medical assistance, shelter, food, clothing and education is available to those who qualify.

For more information on evacuee-assistance that is being offered by the city of Detroit and Wayne County, or to donate time or money for Detroit-related relief efforts, visit this page on the city’s website.
