Big Brother Steps into Upcoming Election

In an emergency court hearing this afternoon, Wayne County Chief Circuit Judge Mary Beth Kelly ordered the State Bureau of Elections and the Wayne County Clerk to oversee Detroit’s absentee ballots in Tuesday’s upcoming election. The judge’s decision was made after hearing testimony from state observers who claimed Curry’s workers violated an injunction Kelly had made yesterday, which barred Curry from using her absentee ballot program. The program allegedly involves sending so-called election ambassadors to the homes of elderly and disabled voters to deliver absentee ballots.

According to Michigan election law, voters that need help filling out absentee ballots should ask a family member or friend, and they should never be approached by someone offering to help unless they have specifically asked for it. In addition, absentee ballots should never be sent to a voter unless he or she requests one.
