Alonzo Bates indicted by federal grand jury
Detroit Councilman Alonzo Bates was indicted by a federal Grand Jury today on thirteen counts, ranging from mail fraud, theft, bank fraud and failing to file federal income tax returns from 2001-2004.
According to a breaking news report from the online edition of the Detroit News, the charges, with the exception of Bates’ failure to file federal income tax returns from 2001 – 2004, are related to long-circulated rumors that Bates allegedly paid more than $91,000 in city funds to three so-called “ghost employees” from 2002 – 2004.
An arraignment date has not been set.
