first Red Wings game
it’s 10:15 in the evening and i’m home sitting in bed with my laptop… however, earlier this evening i thought i’d still be at the Joe or maybe on my way home at around this time…
unfortunately, my first Red Wings game was the site of a life-threatening situation… with only about 7 minutes and 30 seconds left in the first period, Red Wing Jiri Fischer got hit in the throat by another player’s stick, had a seizure and collapsed (this is the news that i’m able to gather at this particular moment)… apparently, his heart had stopped and they needed to bring paramedics onto the ice to administer CPR and also use a difibrillator… at one point, they even brought out a young lady who appears to have been his fiance across the ice to go and see him… at that point you knew it was really very serious… it was difficult to know what was going on because we didn’t have access to a radio or tv and the authorities didn’t let the crowd know what was going on until they decided to cancel the game… unfortunately, people had booed once they heard the game was cancelled, but i’m gonna give them the benefit of the doubt and hope that they just didin’t realize the seriousness of the event…
so that was my first Red Wings game… memorable at best… say a prayer for the Fischer family…
