I think Berkley is underappreciated....New bars restaurants and shops are opening. Very walkable and safe Downtown. A little more $$ than Ferndale but if buying possible good property appreciation.

I have to put in a vote for Ferndale. I live in Ferndale. I am selling a house in Ferndale. And I am looking to buy again in Ferndale. The town is a nice mix of hip, fun and family. I have fun at the bars, I enjoy the Woodward Dream Cruise (originated in Ferndale) and I am excited to raise my daughter in this great town.

I would say Ferndale being most affordable and most bohemian

Berkley is nice but they're competing with Royal Oak for priceyness.

Royal Oak = Food court of Oakland County. Full of yuppies and fake bikers.

Ferndale = stuff going on and heading in the direction of Royal Oak. Still some dicey areas.

Berkley = underappreciated and sleepy. Not much happening but it does have The Berkley Fron, O'Maras and good old Hartfield Lanes.

Here's another vote for Ferndale. They're really doing the right things there.

If one must choose from the above 'burbs, then Ferndale is it. Royal Oak is great, but a bit yuppie-ish, and way way expensive. Berkley is quiet and quaint, but not much else going on. Ferndale is hip, cheap, independent, green-concious, and walkable at all hours of the day and night.

I live in Ferndale, and I see it as the naturally trendy and not-so-commercialized version of Royal Oak. Sorry to any offended Royal Oakers--just my opinion...
