Look out below
I suppose it was bound to happen sooner or later, given the presence of I-75 in the Metro Detroit area, but the fact that a pilot used a portion of the interstate highway in Southgate this afternoon to land his one-engine plane is still a pretty incredible thing to hear.
This is what the Detroit News said about the situation:
“The pilot managed to merge into traffic in the southbound lanes…TV helicopter footage showed the plane upright and blocking two lanes of traffic, but vehicles were still able to drive by the landing site as rush hour got under way.”
The pilot was the only passenger, and there were no reported injuries.
That could’ve been really bad, but the worst that happened was some messed up traffic and a big towing bill for a wayward flyer. Thank God.
I agree, Landlubber. I would have been terrified if I was in one of the cars near the landing site.
