Clothing Rock Stars

Last week was my first working at Showtime Detroit. While it is a gem of a store, it suffers from the fact that Detroit is not a pedestrian city. Still, it has fared for 16 years on the corner of Woodward and Palmer, and it is one of those cool stores that you might wander into in Montreal, London, or Toronto, which has a very loyal clientele. I also have the pleasure of trying to attune myself to the Detroit music scene in the process, as that is all that is played in the store. On my first day I was able to put a face to a name. Robby Nine of Saturnine Hello stopped by to do some shopping.

i’ve driven past that place several times, but have yet to make my way in… while Detroit is still working on it’s pedestrian appeal, i wonder if Showtime could do more work on it’s exterior??? i’ll definitely have to stop in sometime…

You got a job there? How will you ever save money?

I walked by that place every day when I was at Wayne, my college was at Cass and Palmer, and I sometimes wondered who shopped there. I had assumed it was an outfitter for strippers and other, um, working people.

Well, it is not the GAP. If you are a biker in need of a jacket, a skater in need of sweet big pants, a “working person” in need of a boa, or just a Detroiter in need of a cool t-shirt this is the place for you. If you don’t see what you want ask . . . the dissaray is part of the charm.

the owner of Showtime is one of the best people I’ve ever met for 3 reasons.
    1) Gotta question? You’re gonna get a straight answer or a dangerous story with a moral ever time.
    2) He passes along his business knowledge to local designers who have no business being in business.
    3) He’s in the city, and couldn’t love doing what he does more.

if you’re looking for just the marching band unifrom, this is your dive.
