Hosed Down

Say goodbye to the brightly-colored graffiti on downtown’s United Artist’s building, because it may not be around for much longer.

Clean up of the graffiti art that has colored the vacant building’s windows for several years began today. The windows of the first five floors are now graffiti-free. It is not clear whether all of the windows will be rubbed clean, or just those at eye-level.

Atanas Ilitch, who recently took over the real estate part of Olympia Entertainment hasn’t said whether it’s the Super Bowl or not. Rumor has it that Olympia is preparing to make a “major announcement” concerning the handful of vacant buildings they own in the CBD. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

If it is merely being done for the Superbowl, money could be better spent elsewhere. No one will care to remember an abandoned building with sparkling windows. However, an abandoned building with crazy cool art would have had people talking :0(
