final thoughts on the Lions…

the new year has come in and the Lions’ season has gone out… then again, it left a long time ago didn’t it???

the Lions ended their season today in a 35-21 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers… this has by far been the worst season i’ve ever experienced as a Detroit Lions fan, which is saying a lot because they’ve had a lot of bad seasons… i think this season has been most disappointing because the expectations were so high… we had 3 up and coming wide-receivers and a pretty hyped up running back… all 4 of those players didn’t produce like we hoped, Joey Harrington didn’t do what we wanted and Steve Marriucci got canned…

word has it that next year’s roster will look completely different… they say at least half of the players who are here now won’t be here next year… i think that’s a good thing… personally, i hope they keep Joey Harrington and Charles Rogers… i think that both of them still have a chance to become something special in this league, and i’d hate to see them do it somewhere other than Detroit… i still wanna see what Joey can do in an offense other than the West Coast Offense, one that is geared more towards what he excels at… Charles Rogers is still a pretty fast guy and with Roy Williams on the opposite side of the field, they could still end up being a pretty threatening tandem… on the other hand, i could understand why Millen wouldn’t keep either of them (even though it is hard to understand why the Fords might keep Millen)…

well, now Detroit sports fans can focus on the “Boys of Winter”… the Red Wings and Pistons… thank God for those teams!!! but can you imagine how different Downtown Detroit might be if the Lions and Tigers were good??? perhaps Detroit sports teams should stray from using feline names and mascotts??? automotive theme: good… feline theme: bad…

Hey, at least we have the #9 pick in the draft. Time to start rebuilding – again. Charles Rogers had his chance to show us what he can do, and he blew it. If we get lucky, some owners will declare themselves eligible for the draft, and we can draft a new one.

our draft position for the coming season always seems to be the light at the end of the tunnel… i would love new ownership, but we all know that won’t happen… the Lions franchise is the perfect business venture right now… poor product and high returns… can’t beat that…
