A Dark December

According the the National Weather Service, it has been an extremely dark couple weeks. In fact, the amount of time that the sun has been out since December 19th totals less than a television show. A mere 14 minutes of sunlight has shone down on the Motor City. Have you been feeling depressed? Maybe it wasn’t just the holiday blues, but the lack of warmth from the sun.

An average December is filled with sunshine 31% of the time; however with our ‘sun drought’, this past December saw the sun only 12% of the time.

Brian Dickerson of the Free Press mentions his reactions to this dark winter:

If you think of winter as an epic struggle between good and evil, we Michiganders have been in the crucible. December was our D-Day. We came ashore at Omaha Beach and lived to tell the tale.

I think every winter is a bit of a battle, but come May I get a feeling of accomplishment.

I was wondering about that. Is it just dark in the metro-Detroit area? I thought it may have just been because I was spoiled by the South Carolina sunshine over the break . . .
