Motown goin’ Down

the building that is… according to an article in today’s Detroit News…

this might be faux pas to say, but i’m glad that thing is goin’ down… located at the corner of the Fisher Freeway service drive and Woodward, the boarded up and vacant building will be demo’d in order to provide more parking for SBXL… while i’m not too pleased that it’s going to be a parking lot, i am pleased that it’s going down… coming out of Downtown into Midtown, that old dilapidated building is the first thing you see and totally distracts from the wondeful happenings in Brush Park, specifically Woodward Place… i’m sure the residents over there aren’t too broken up about it… my hope is that that plot of land and the ones extending north (which are currently vacant and sometimes used for parking) will eventually be used for something else (like a Target or Meijer!!! i know i’m dreaming)… the article in the Detroit News, mainly about the Ilitch family’s intent to redevelop several of their historical properties Downtown, also spoke of how the recently demolished Madison-Lenox Hotel parcel, also reduced to a parking lot, may also be developed into something more… this would be great for the Washington Blvd. area, a place ripe for more development…

i’m willing to deal with parking lots for now, but i’m not willing to deal with them staying parking lots for too long… let’s hope this grows into something more…
