Here Today, Gone Tomorrow
With the Super Bowl approaching a lot of abandoned buildings in Detroit are disappearing these days. The Sanders Building is only the most recent major building to succumb to the wrecking ball, and the adjacent Donovan Building is soon to follow. As an architecture student it is always difficult to watch buildings like this fall, since I am being trained to come up with creative solutions to problems. When I drive around the city I often look and under-utilized buildings and wonder how they could be reused. While preservation is not always an answer, I get upset when I see buildings like these fall for a parking lot.
