What did you do on MLK Day?
Regardless of how you feel about Dr. Martin Luther King’s life and legacy, you cannot deny that he continues to inspire an immense passion. I was privy to this passion on Martin Luther King Day as leaders from various organizations gathered at the United Methodist Church, beside Comerica park, to discuss the issues of poverty, racism, and militarism and how they are all one and the same. The rally was followed by a march through downtown Detroit to urge the government to bring American troops home. We were sent off by Governor Granholm and when the leader of the cheer asked “what does democracy look like?” one was able to look at the hundred people in front and the hundred people behind and able to answer “this is what democracy looks like.”
Worked – a very good way to honor MLK by taking advantage of the equal rights for all he fought for.
