Fun at Winter Blast
Forget the celebrity parties – Winter Blast is where it’s at, and – better yet – it’s free.
My parents, fiance and I headed over to the CBD this afternoon just in time for the opening of the Motown Winter Blast and had a great time.
Driving from our place near Belle Isle into downtown was no problem, and parking was even easier – we found a spot right off Jefferson near Beaubien and paid $7.
Downtown looks fabulous and Winter Blast truly has something for everyone. From ice skating (which is free during the Blast, thanks to Ford) to ice sculptures, shopping, music and lots of great food, this is one festival that is not to be missed.
Hi,
This is slightly off topic, but I like the blog, and I was wondering how you added that direct Yahoo feed. On our TypePad blog, clicking on adding to the feed just gets you an RSS file.
Also, since this is for a class, it would be nice if you could add us to your blogroll. I have put yours on ours.
Thanks,
Atul
I felt like a little kid last night in Detroit. So many lights, and new signage, everything seemed to twinkle–with only little help from the light rain. There were so many people and areas that can be a little dark usually were so alive. I did get stuck in a bit of traffic near Lafayette, but nothing terrible, and I did pay $20 to park right in Greektown, but none of it bothered me. Felt like driving around in any other major city. AWESOME! I think I might actually take a cab in this city for the first time ever to go back on Saturday! Everyone get downtown this weekend! Experience Detroit as it should be plus all the added excitement that the Superbowl has brung. -Elizabeth
I also headed downtown for the Winter Blast, and I have to say that it is the most beautiful I have ever seen the city look. The streets were packed with people, there were beautiful lights, and it was snowing… People get Detroit so wrong and it bothers me because I know that the city has so much potential. Although, it was fun (and incredibly easy) to point out the people from out of town who obviously weren’t prepared for our crazy, constantly changing weather walking around with no jackets or limping around in stilletos.
I went to the Winter Blast Thu.-Sat. nights and loved every second of it despite the overwhelming crowd. That is what Detroit should look like every weekend, and it very well can be. I loved the rock music stage so much, I found it difficult to wander away. The Muggs, Howling Diablos & Twistin Tarantulas (among many others) all put on a great show.
