We have no pilot for your flight . . .

My father was in town for the weekend and it was the loveliest of visits. No matter how old I get, I’m always his little girl and he is the one man in my life I can always depend on. Unfortunately, well fortunately for me as I got to see him for a little longer, he was detained from his Northwest flight last night. They could not find a pilot for the plane and then cancelled the flight 2 hours after it was to take off. Is this now a trend? The same inability to track flight staff was a problem for me last time I flew United, en route from Boston via Chicago, and I had never experienced it before. I cannot understand detaining a flight for an inability to schedule and then not compensating individuals for their trouble. The $20 flight voucher, as compensation, did not even cover half of his cab ride home at 1:30 in the morning. That voucher certainly does not make up for having to battle Superbowl madness to ensue as visitors make their way home today.
