Detroit Appeals Officer John Bennett’s Reinstatement

Remember almost three years ago when Officer John Bennett was suspended for making the website, firejerryo.com? The site criticized then-Chief Officer Jerry Oliver, who resigned after being caught at the Metro with an unlicensed handgun. Bennett, upset with Oliver’s poor performance as Chief, publicly stated so on his website (now a blog about all Detroit government corruption). Soon after, Bennett was out of the force.

Now there is finally a follow-up.

The Michigan Employment Relations Commission has ordered the reinstatement of a police officer suspended 2 1/2 years ago for creating a Web site that criticized then-police Chief Jerry Oliver.

Detroit is appealing the Feb. 1 decision to the Michigan Court of Appeals, said Assistant City Attorney Valerie Colbert-Osamuede.

Thanks for putting this up. I followed the links and found out more about this scenario, and I added the site to my delicious account (the ultimate compliment for a site!). Nice work.
