Detroit Synergy
Umm. I guess I am officially a dork. This is my second post in a row that is about something I found rather randomly on the web. *sighs* At any rate I found a group that is simpatico with the purpose of Metro-blogging. The group is called, “Detroit Synergy” and their mission, “We generate positive perceptions and opinions about Detroit by bringing together a diverse community and building upon the City’s strengths and resources to realize a common vision for a greater Detroit.” Check them out here. They actually DO something and have found a way to convert ideas into actions. Very impressive.
they’re a great organization… i took part in the supermakeover through them…
dear god you people are behind the curve. they’ve been around three years and you’re just now discovering them? what’s next – you stumble onto detroit having the baseball all-star game?
dear god,
please make anonymous stop being a jackass and realize that while you may have made him all-knowing, the rest of us will very likely have to count on his patience for a little while longer as we wallow in ignorance. If it be your will, please encourage him to sign up to be an author if he is so amazing and proficient with the interweb.
amen
I am not too impressed with Detroit Synergy. Sure they help out with annual clean-ups, ie. motorcity makeover and supermakover, but those are city related cleanups and anyone/everyone is invited to join. They don’t seem to create their own clean-ups. They also go on tours of Detroit, but in reality, they take people to the Whitney and what many consider ‘upper class’ places in Detroit. This would be great if they took people to these places, that can obviously afford it, but then again if they can afford places like this, perhaps they should be searching out more donations and finding worthy Detroit charities to donate to. Taking people to the Whitney is not showing people the real Detroit IMO. I am glad that there are organizations out there dedicated to Detroit, but in order for them to work and thrive, they must be more realistic.
Dear NO:
Detroit Synergy is much more than park clean ups, tours, and The Whitney. In fact, it’s whatever *you* want it to be. All projects are MEMBER driven, which means if there’s a cause in the City that’s near and dear to your heart, it’s up to *you* to make it happen. Feel free to use the group’s volunteers, media contacts, marketing knowledge, website & email lists (over 3,300 people on their list), funding resources, and reputation to make your project more successful.
The projects you’ve chosen to criticize were organized and implement by people just like you, because they wanted to–not because of some higher organizational decree.
So, that said… What’s your vision for Detroit?
