Former Sports Stars Add to Momentum

well, so far the momentum from SBXL continues to swell… it was announced this morning that both former Pistons’ star Dave Bing and recent Superbowl Champion Jerome Bettis won bids to develop properties on Detroit’s riverfront… check out the article from the Free Press here

this is something that the city totally needs… it needs people who are from the city or who have become a part of the city to step up, take charge and provide leadership… i also think that it is even more significant that the people stepping up are former professional athletes… they are the ones that many in Detroit’s culture look up to, and if these professional athletes are willing to take ownership of a city, then hopefully it’ll say something to the “normal” citizens of this town…

If atheletes are willing to stay in their hometown and develop new projects, that is certainly a good sign that someone still has faith in Detroit. One problem with the city is that there simply aren’t enough people living downtown. This should help. More people nearby should mean more businesses as well. I wish good luck to these developments.
