You are being watched . . .

Car break and enters is a hard hitting issue in Detroit, especially for the authors of this site. As I am not street wise in any way, shape, or form, I welcomed the following piece of advice from a shopkeeper who has survived in the city for almost two decades. In the city you are always being watched. When you leave your car, people see you hiding valuables. These people inform robbers, who then repay the informants with a cut of the profit. While this is scary, it is something to be aware of. While none of your valuables should ever be visible in a parked car, hide them before reaching your destination.

I totally agree. I had a friend who parked at one of the bars in Windsor with her girlfriends, and they all threw their purses in the car trunk before they went in the bar.

Some dude watched them and broke into their trunk later and took all the purses. You really gotta keep an eye out.

My girlfriend parks in the street every night, and I make sure she has nothing in her car that someone would want to bust a window out for and she always has the club on her wheel (not that it will stop a determined criminal, but it will deter people).

It is pretty awful when my heart leaps with joy at having all my windows in tact and just seeing my car in general. I just got a club upon the insistence of a friend, but I wonder if that would be more of an incentive for a break in.

Actually, instead of THE CLUB, just take off the entire steering wheel!
