Midtown Liar

a few weeks back i was walking home with my wife from La Pita… we walked just past Twingo’s when a fellow came up to me and started giving me this schpiel about how his car tire blew out and that he needs some cash to get it fixed… he went on further to explain that he’s not a bum, that he has a One card (a university sort of debit card) but that that won’t help him in this situation…

before i could even think of what to say, my wife says to him, “you just told me the exact same thing three days ago”… i laughed pretty hard in his face at that point and called him a liar, but the guy barely even flinched, he just kept on walking…

this past sunday night i was over at the Wayne State Starbucks and upon entering, the same fellow comes up to me again, starting his whole schpiel… i just ignored him completely, and he just went on to the next person… unfortunately, i saw someone give him some cash and i was like, “sheesh, this guy is incredible”…

then last night as i’m going to the party store on the corner of Woodward and Willis, the same fellow once again approaches me… before he can even get a word out, i’m like, “this is the 3rd time you’ve talked to me!”… he apologized and kept walking…

i find it uncanny that this fellow has approached me 3 times in 3 different locations… i mean really, am i that unmemorable!?!?!? hehe… this really irks me though because i love to help people… if my wife had never run into him before, i prolly would’ve given him something for his supposed flat tire… but this guy makes it hard for me to trust anyone… even further, he doesn’t look like a bum, he looks like a normal guy… isn’t dressed poorly, he’s just a flat out liar and likes to take advantage of the kindness of strangers… i mean, there are people out there who actually need help, but this guy ruins it for them too…

anyways, i thought i’d give y’all a heads up on this guy… he’s skinny, average height, black, medium complexion, typically has a backpack…

Hey, I’ve been hit up by this same guy twice down around Campus Martius! Well, not only is he persistent – he gets around.

I had a guy approach me near Majestic. It was about a week after SBXL. His story was that he was from Madison Heights and came down for the Superbowl, he ‘got hurt’ (didn’t say how) and was at the DMC for the past week. They just released him, but he has no money for bus fare back to Madison Heights. He then showed me his wrist wearing a mangled medical tag.

    I’ll admit it was clever.
