I am always raving about my City and the great things going on here. For all the out of towners, visitors from foriegn lands and foriegn suburbs you now have an enormous tool to use for finding your way around downtown.

It’s from a company called Virtualeyes and thier site is at www.CyberCityTours.com. This extraordinary virtual map is so cool and, be careful, very addictive. The graphics are rich with color and extremely accurate. It’s almost like a vidio game but without the cars and characters.

You are the only person, it seems, in the entire City. Wander down main stretches or hang a left on a side street. There are thirteen stops on the people mover and you can go to each one.

There are navigational tools to use to get around. Click on “People Mover Tours” and just pick one. As the map loads up and zooms down to the street level, wait a sec for it to automatically focus. You can pan up or down, right or left. Go right inside Comerica or Ford Field. Use the bathroom, (just kidding), but it is so real.

Created initially for the Super Bowl, they are placing these kiosks in and around downtown. There is presently one at the Broadway station and two inside the DSO and the adjacent garage. In addition there is one inside Cobo Center.

Business’s are getting on board so that visitors can find there location easily. You’re looking for a local pub or a fine restaurant? Click on the station you want and walk down the streets to find it. All the streets are named.

It took eight months to photograph every building and paste them up on grey backrounds. It’s a great site so have fun visiting Detroit and please, no littering!

For some reason, when I click on “Click here to start zooming” my browser window closes?
