Battle at the Masonic
I absolutely love Big Band music, so when I heard about the Battle of the Big Bands II being held at the Masonic Temple tomorrow night, I felt compelled to let other Metro Detroiters know about it.
Battle of the Big Bands II takes place tomorrow night from 7 pm – 1 am in the Masonic’s magnificent Crystal Ballroom. The battle of the bands — the Paul King and the Rhythm Swing Society Orchestra versus the Dave Bennett Quartet — begins at 8:30 pm.
The cost for the Battle is $20 in advance, and $22 at the door. A swing lesson is available from 7 – 8 pm for an additional $5.
The Rhythm Swing Society is a 16-piece vintage swing band from Detroit that tours all over the Midwest with its fabulous sounds.
Dave Bennett, a Waterford native, is a 20-year-old clarinetist that is considered by many as a musical phenom. He taught himself to play the instrument by ear at age 10, and, at age 17, was one of two students picked out of a crowd of 600 to play onstage with the Count Basie Orchestra.
Who’s better? Who’s the best? Find out tomorrow night at Battle of the Bands II!
