The Meetery Eatery

was lookin’ for a place to chill tonight and i had forgotten about a fairly unknown place called The Meetery Eatery… it’s a small place located on the first floor of the Park Shelton in Midtown, right next to the DIA across from the DHM… i hadn’t been here in a while, but i was glad to see that things are still goin’ well… Wednesday nights are Jazz nights, with live Jazz music every week… Thursday nights (tonight) are set aside for Acoustic Open Mic nights… Markita Moore hosts it and she’s a fine talent… all the other acts tonight have been pretty decent too… Friday nights are for Poetry Open Mic nights… they’re open for lunch and dinner, but there’s a $5 cover charge for Jazz, Acoustic and Poetry Open Mic nights… the food ain’t too shabby either… check it out if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ different to do in Midtown… maybe after you chill at the DIA???

“The Godfather” & my life.

I am a movieholic. That is, movies are a major part of my life, especially when I was a young child.

Saturday afternoons were spent at the “show” in Allen Park. For fifty cents we could watch a double feature plus cartoons! Movies like “The Day the Earth Stood Still”, “It Came From Outer Space” and “When Worlds Collide” were some of my childhood favs.

As a teenager, (copped my first free feel in the Trenton Theater on Jefferson), I watched all the Elvis flicks and movies like “Psycho”, “Youngblood Hawk” and “Dr. Stranglove.”
I have seen so many movies that I know I would do very well if I said someday, “I’ll take movies for 500 Alex!”

San Francisco

I am in San Francisco this week for work. I love this city – with it’s busy city streets, public transportation and 60 degree weather. Right now I have tenative plans to meet up with some of the SF Metblog crew later. Fingers crossed.

Examine the Train Station with Matrix

The Matrix Theatre of Southwest Detroit is presenting a cool look at the old days of Detroit via the Michigan Central Depot.

Set in the days when Detroiters immigrated to the city through the old station, Homelands: Michigan Central is about two teenagers who meet at the station and are taken on a tour of the city’s past by a stranger.

Tickets are $15. Visit the Matrix Theatre’s website for more information.

Battle at the Masonic

I absolutely love Big Band music, so when I heard about the Battle of the Big Bands II being held at the Masonic Temple tomorrow night, I felt compelled to let other Metro Detroiters know about it.

Art in the Stations

I am quite a fan of the Detroit People Mover. On my numerous rides I have heard many a thing about the Art in the Stations. These works were commissioned and regardless of how you feel about them, they make you look twice. My favourite station is the Cobo station. The bronze statue at the Grand Circus Park station scares me every time; I am convinced I’ve seen it move . . .

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

Lions: QB drama

well, to the delight of many Joey Harrington will be out of town in no time… the Lions signed former Cincinnati Bengal’s QB Jon Kitna to a 4 year contract this past weekend and about an hour ago it was announced that former Arizona Cardinals QB Josh McCown signed a 2 year deal with the Lions…

More WDET fun

The calm after the WDET programming change storm had just started to settle. Then this morning, WDET GM Michael Coleman was in court facing embezzlement charges.

Great timing considering the Spring Pledge Drive is right around the corner…
