Tigers: Winning Impact on Downtown

i’ve been telling various people who will listen how much an impact a decent Tigers team would have on downtown Detroit… major league baseball plays the most games in a season out of all 4 major sports, not to mention they play games more frequently… if the Tigers win more, people will go to more games, which means more people downtown more often… common sense, but still worth noting…

so the Tigers have started the season 3-0, have scored 27 runs, have already hit over 15 homers and have yet to commit an error… WHAT!?!?! can you say World Series?!?!

haha… JUST KIDDING… we’ve got a long way to go… a long, long, long way to go… but it’s a nice start… i look forward to takin’ a few trips on the 53 down to the ballpark for a few (hopefully) competitive Tigers games…

I’ve already punched my tickets to the World Series…

Detroit is a major sports town, and how sports shapes the downtown area is always great to see. The Pistons are arguably the city’s best, but play out in the suburbs, and the Red Wings play only 41 home games a year (with a capacity of around 19k). The Lions play only once a week. A winning baseball team would provide much more of a boost than any other team. 81 home games, and a stadium that seats 44,000+. If the Tigers can stay healthy and consistent this year, they will have a fine product on the field. I have no doubts that their attendence will be higher than the previous two years. The only question is how high?

not to mention that playing during the summer months is more enticing for people to head out early and stay out a little longer after the event

It’s fun isn’t it? We’re having a bit of a renaissance here in Milwaukee as well. The only bad thing is that you have to show up so early to beat the traffic!
