NEEDS TO STOP

DETROIT – The senseless violence needs to stop! It needs to stop here and now. Guns are not the solution to any problem. Guns don’t protect your honor. Guns don’t make you a bigger person. Guns make you a coward. Too many people are dying over stupid crap.

I keep asking but no one answers. What are we teaching our children when we use guns to solve our problems? Where is the outrage over how badly we are failing our children right now with all this senseless violence? What are we teaching them besides lack of respect for others and themselves?

Put the guns away, Detroit. There are other ways.

i agree with you… however, you’re assuming that the children (young or old) in our city are in contact with their parents, and that’s not necessarily the case… this results in the Detroit we see today…

Parents aren’t the only role models for today’s children. We are all responsible for being role models for the children – not just our own, but all children.

not the only role models, but the most effective ones… it’s likely that if parents did a better job of modeling responsibility, less would depend on role models in society… i’m not arguing with you, just adding to it…

to me it just seems like no one is affraid of what will happen if/when they get caught. it seems like every day someone is pulling a gun and/or running from the police without fear of the outcome. i don’t even turn right on red if i’ve pulled too far forward and think there may be a sign i missed.

i agree max… people don’t have any grid for or respect of authority (whether or not we have good authorities is another question) which is a result of poor modeling by parents and ourselves… this explains why people feel free to do whatever they see fit in their own eyes (i.e.- using guns to settle disputes)…

poverty, high unemployment with more layoffs announced seemingly every business day, a high prevalance of depression combined with easy access to alcohol, drugs, and guns – throw in a break-up with the girlfriend or a personal slight – those who don’t care about consequences have nothing but pessimism about the future and see no help coming, as if all the guardian angels have left, too.

It’s not hard to understand just to change.
