Tigers: Already Better than Last Year

i know it’s still early in the season… it’s too quick to come to any conclusions about this team… but i would still contend that they are a better team than they were the last couple years… after starting the season with 5 straight wins, they’ve lost 4 straight… but even if they lose tonight, if the first 10 games are any indicator on how the season will go, i can live with it (for now)…

the good things i’ve seen:

– they’re winning games against teams that are as good as or worse than they are
– even when they’re losing, they don’t give up and still try to win
– who’s this Chris Shelton guy!?!?!

again… it’s way too early to come to any conclusions about this team… it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility that this team could totally tank the rest of the season… having said that, i wouldn’t be a true Detroit sports fan if i were to always include logic and level-headedness to everything i think about regarding any of our 4 major sports teams, now would i???

It appears as though the Tigers bats have returned. They had 21 hits and 9 runs yesterday, but they were just out-slugged. If the pitching can continue to get the job done (we’ll just assume Verlander’s latest start was a fluke), everything is going to be alright.

I agree that it’s too early to tell whether the Tigers are a more balanced team this year or whether it will be more of the same as the last 10 years or so.

It concerns me that they were not very competitive against the champs and this weekend Cleveland should be another good test of this teams makeup and their ability to win.

There is no doubt that the Tigers have the offense to win games, but their pitching and interior defense are still major concerns, especially if Robertson, Maroth and Verlander are unable to develop some kind of consistency.

I think I’ll reserve judgment about this new Tigers team until after the month of April. This should be a pretty good indicator or the type of season the Tigers will have overall.
