Major freeway closures this weekend

Boy am I glad I won’t be traveling north of the city this weekend. Well, traveling north wouldn’t be so bad, but the drive home would turn from a quick one into one of detours and back-ups.

That’s because MDOT is closing I-75 South from the Davison to I-696 at 9 pm tonight, and the entire freeway between these two spots will remain closed until 5 am Monday morning. Woodward is a nearby alternative, but it will add more than a few minutes to your drive, so bring some patience and some good music with you if you’re headed this way.

In addition, Southeastern Michigan’s reputation for simultaneous road projects promises not to disappoint as portions of westbound I-696 are closed this weekend: drivers on that freeway will be subject to a detour between Van Dyke and I-94 from 9 pm tonight until 9 pm tomorrow night, and those traveling the freeway from 9 pm Saturday until 5 am Monday will be rerouted as the area of westbound 696 between I-94 and Groesbeck is shut down.
