Accidents
Today alone, I passed two accidents bad enough to have the highways backed up for miles and the frustrated drivers out of their cars talking with other drivers. A few drivers were even sitting on their cars watching everything around them. I had passed quite a few nasty accidents earlier in the week.
In talking with my boyfriend, he commented on also noticing an increase in bad accidents. Anyone else noticing this? It is fairly accepted that Michigan driving is tricky at best. Since moving here, I have had to adjust to aggressive driving, being cut off, optional red lights/stop lights in Detroit, tailgating and other bad driving tactics. It doesn’t surprise me that there have been so many accidents. It is a case of “if” but “when”.
now that you mention it, i think there have been more accidents as of late… part of me thinks that the construction and the resulting route changes play a part…
Since I’ve moved here 11 1/2 years ago, I’ve had many pet peeves about the way people drive in Detroit. I re-posted about these in our Detroit Essentials blog.

You may have seen it before.
I think Detroit actually needs better enforcement of speeding, dangerous driving.

I’ve only noticed increases in accident and traffic on the major suburban routes (most notably I-96 from 275 to Beck Rd). Four years ago I used to be able to take that route with very few problems. Now, it’s extremely congested during rush hour and there seems to have been an increase in accidents as well.
I suspect this overall problem may have to do with the suburban sprawl that continues along the 75 in north Oakland county, 96 west of 275, and 94 in north Macomb County.
It does seem like there are more accidents on the roads these days. On Sunday morning I got caught in a nasty traffic tie-up that was the result of an accident that blocked 3 of 4 westbound lanes of 696…it wasn’t pretty. Hopefully those who were involved survived.
Allan, that accident was a single car fatality. The paper said a driver hit a work sign and his van rolled over and trapped him. I passed that accident on East bound. All the windows in the van had shattered out.
I haven’t seen any car vs. moose crashes lately. Good thing. Those can be bad.
