G. Love And Dave Matthews

Last night 6 of us jammed with G. Love and the Special Sauce and The Dave Matthews bands. We have been fans of both of these groups for about 10 years.

G. Love and cast opened up. Their set was strong, but way to short. They played for 45 minutes. They snuck in John Lee Hooker and Ray Charles covers. Unfortunatly the “Frat” crowd that was there for the social scene, not the music had no respect for G.Love and the Sauce. G.Love dropped his soulful flowing lyrics while the stand up bass was slaped and House Man layed out the beats.

Dave Matthews Band pulled out some of their classics as well as some new and future songs. As always Daves voice bellowed over top of the jam band.

The show was good considering DTEs uncanny ability to wreck live performances. Something about that place just doesnt look, feel or sound good.

My friends and I sat in the grass right on the edge of the cement path. We were about 20 minutes into Daves set when G. Love and House Man walked right in front of us. We hollered out to him, he turned smiled and waved. That was cool we thought. About 15 minutes after that he came back, down the same path. This time we hollered at him and he came over, hugged the girls and shook hands with the guys. We got a chance to express our appreciation for his music. He was greatfull and down to earth. It was very cool! The bummer though was that he could walk right in the middle of all these people and we were really the only group that made a big deal of it.

It was amazing to finally get to hear Dave and G.Love perform in a show togther. Now we need to get them to do some songs together.

Detroit! You need to listen to G.Love! He has played DTE, MeadowBrook, Freedom Hill and Detroit Taste Fest.
