holy cranes!

when driving northbound on M-10, right off of Jefferson, you’ll see somewhere between 7-10 cranes on the horizon… most of them are due to casino construction as both Motor City and MGM casinos are plowing away at their expansions and hotels… but i would be remiss not to note that there are several other cranes peppering the horizon in various other parts of the D…

yes, i’m the same author who wrote “building slowly?” which was about my fears that developments were slowing down and hopefully not ultimately collapsing altogether… that’s why i’m writing this article… too often someone in the media writes a story and it’s never followed up or if need be, corrected…

only days after i published “building slowly?“, visible progress started popping up all over town… they tore down the construction fencing around the Ellington… a huge crane towered over Brush Park putting up walls for the Garden Lofts… walls were being put up inside of 55 W. Canfield… visible work is seen on the Vinton Lofts at Woodward and Congress… and even in my own backyard, they set a crane up and have made considerable progress on an additional level to the Willys Overland Lofts

i found it ironic that all this visible progress popped up right after i wrote about a possible lack of progress… not that i think that i had anything to do with it, only that progress was happening all along, i just couldn’t see it… faith and trust that this city is moving forward is often difficult to have, so i’m sure i’m not the only one riding the rollercoaster of emotions that comes with being hopeful about the future of Detroit… but for many, seeing is believing and right now, it’s pretty easy to see that things are still progressing forward…
