Who will wear the “C”?

Steve Yzerman has retired from the game of hockey. I am sure that I speak for the majority of Detroit as well as hockey fans around the world when I say, “Thank you for all that you have done for the sport of hockey”.
Now that Steve Yzerman has retired the “C” has to be handed down. The “C” that I am referring to is the markings of a leader, a mentor, a coach on and off the ice, a role model for kids and adults alike, the Captain.
The Detroit Red Wings are blessed with many talented people from Henrick Zetterberg to Kirk Maltby to Pavel Datsyuk. One person however stands out as the best candidate for this role. Niklas Lidstrom.
Niklas Lidstrom is the leader that has what it takes to push the young Red Wings back into the playoffs and hopefully into the finals.
The Detroit Red Wings will be making this decision very soon.
Who do you feel should wear the “C” from this cast of warriors?

I think giving it to Zetterberg would be the best idea. Apparently Z’s locker was right next to Yzerman’s the last few seasons because the Wings are trying to groom him as the heir to the “C”. Giving it to Zetterberg now would show him the Wings are committed in him and want him around for the rest of his career. I personally like Zetterberg better than Pavel Datsyuk because it seems to me Zetterberg stepped it up big time in the Olympics and was one of the only players who came to play in the playoffs. I’m not saying Lidstrom isn’t as deserving, if not more so than Z, because Lidstrom has more accolades and has been a force on the Wings blue line for over a decade; however, Lidstrom will likely only be with the team a maximum of three to four more years. I think it’s time for Wings’ management to make a bold move and give the “C” to Z.

not bad logic there jeff but its going to lidstrom, not dissing z at all he is an amazing player as is datsyuk, but z is not ready for the role and he isnt steve yzerman, nobody is frankly, but its going to lidstrom because of the experience and leadership role he has, expecting the wings to try and pull of a miracle of making a young kid captain and having last 20 years again just wont happen, its lidstroms c now, and maybe if not him then cheli
