Former City Council President Maryann Mahaffey dies
Just heard from another metblogger that former Detroit City Council President Maryann Mahaffey just died at Henry Ford Hospital this morning. She served on the city council for more than 30 years.

She was always active, even just two weeks ago. I caught her at the rally that formed at 9 mile and Woodward protesting the war.
Farewell, Maryann
Last night, while picking up dinner, I heard a couple discussing Mahaffey. The woman was commenting on how she was one of the best things that happened to Detroit and that she would be missed. Her companion whole heartedly agreed with her.
Then the woman went on to list her complaints about the other council members as her companion simply nodded and agreed.
I too was lucky enough to see her at a war protest to be honored with an award for her service. To see an entire congregation deliver a standing ovation to this woman was quite an experience. Thank you for being such a wonderful role model.
