Tiger Train

The Illitches and Amtrak have teamed up with DDOT to lure more suburbanites to the D for Tiger’s Games. According to an Mlive.com article [1], suburbanites can board an Amtrak train stopping in Pontiac, Birmingham and Royal Oak that goes to New Center. From New Center they can take a DDOT bus right up to Comerica Park. For $29, you get all that air-conditioned transportation on top of a right field box seat and a food voucher for refreshments.
I find this an interesting move by the Tiger’s. Initially, I thought it silly because if people wanted to go to a Tigers game, they’d just drive. But maybe people are afraid of their cars getting broken into and such? Not to mention parking can get costly if you don’t know where to go and don’t want to walk so far. The more I think about it, it’s a very suburban thing. The people riding the Tiger train will have to spend a minimal amount of time actually exposed to the streets of the D. At the same, I don’t see it as all bad because it’ll expose people to the city and possibly help them ease a little more comfortably into the city.
Ultimately, it’s like a make-shift subway for Tiger’s games. But what do you guys think about the Tiger Train? Yea or Nay?
