Kindergarten at the Y
several of my suburbanite friends come down to Detroit and almost all of them say something about how the Boll Family Y looks just awesome… and it’s true!!! i’ve been to other Y facilities in the area, and they don’t even compare… i love heading down to the Y and it really does provide a great sense of community as i see lots of different folks i know from around town when i’m there… this morning an article in the Free Press by Chastity Pratt tells us of another way that the Y will be contributing to the city: by providing child care, preschool and kindergarten!!!
now if you’ve been to the Y, you know how cool that would be for a kid to be able to say that he/she goes to school at the Y… i mean, it’s got a climbing wall, is super-modern and their classroom overlooks a pool… also, the state certified teachers and classrooms will facilitate a unique kind of curriculum called “Play to Learn” which suggests that the best way for kids to learn is through playing (makes sense to me!)… of course, it’s gonna cost some cash to send your kid there ($175/week according to the Freep) but it includes childcare (from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.), gym time, meals, low child to teacher ratios, swim lessons for your kid and a membership to the Y for yourself…
i hope they still have this program when i have kids… check out the Y’s website or the Freep article for more info…
