Lofts Coming to the Backside of Woodbridge

In order to save some cash and spur development, Detroit Public Schools is planning on selling the old Wilber Wright High School on Rosa Parks Blvd. just north of Grand River (its latest incarnation was the old Detroit School of Fine and Performing Arts in 2005)… developers are hoping to convert the vacant building into 15 lofts units… Woodbridge is a great neighborhood and i think it would be a nice addition to the area in general… i also think making use of old school buildings is a great thing… if only they could do something with the old Cass Tech…

Talking about high school to loft conversions, anyone hear anything in the past few years about the old Cass Tech being converted to lofts?

You’d think it’s proximity to the new Motor City and MGM Grand casinos would spure more development, but I haven’t heard anything.

the old Cass Tech building is great, but i’ve heard that it’s too big and would be too expensive to convert into lofts… something about the layout of the classrooms not being conducive to a loft conversion… it really is a shame because it’d be great if they could make some use of that building…
