Detroit on a Seattle Day
Those of you who live in Michigan know that today’s weather was very Seattle. The temperatures were cool and in the 60s and it rained all day. Not really a downpour, but a slow foggy sprinkle with occasional showers. I have compiled a short list of the pros and cons of Seattle in Detroit.
Cons
1. Rain – It rained all day! Ick!
2. Pollution – The humidity and coolness seems to hold in the pollution in the air. I could not open my windows today because it was so thick (midtown smelled like burning sulfer and paint today)
3. Flash Flooding – My 1920s era apartment building parking lot is in rough shape. I had to stomp through almost a foot and a half of (polluted) water just to get inside!
Pros
1. Starbucks – I spent an hour reading over at the new Starbucks on Woodward. It was fabulous. No wonder why Seattlites love this place.
2. The Ed Love Show on WDET – For some reason, jazz sounds better on a dreary and rainy day.
3. Work – You can always get more work done on a day when you can’t go outside!
i’ve found that it’s been quite stinky in Midtown the last few days… the humidity and rain hasn’t helped at all…
I spent my rainy afternoon quite contently with a book at Au Bon Pain in Campus Martius. I love walking through cold rain and hearing its beat against my windows at night. I must agree though, the aroma of the city has not been all that pleasant consequently.
