The Art, Beats, and Eats festival is cool, but it's more like the travelling art fairs that go to a different town every weekend during the Summer. I'd rather go to the Jazz Fest because it's something different and I like jazz very much.

I was having the same debate. As a sportswriter, I'm swamped this weekend with the Lions, Shock and Tigers, so it looks like I'll be doing DJF on Sunday and missing ABE altogether for the first time ever.

It's a lot easier to miss ABE now that I'm living in Royal Oak after 11 years in Pontiac.

I have been going to the Detroit Jazz Fest for as long as I can remember. My dad would take me every year. Now an adult I still have yet to miss a labor day weekend down in Hart Plaza.

I went to ABE once. It was either the first or second year. I wasn't impressed and never returned. The Jazz Fest will always win my vote. Its a different crowd, one I feel much more welcome at.

WDET's Front Row Center (yeah, yeah...'boo DET', whatever) last week talked about this with one of the heads for the DJF. Its a very interesting show to listen to. I'd suggest everyone to listen to the last episode on their site.
