Detroit Jazz Festival
Despite the rain and cold on Friday and Saturday night, the Detroit Jazz Festival was in full swing with some great bands, food, fireworks, and elephant ears. I’ve never had an elephant ear, but it looked rather similar to beaver tails that I had had up north. I’m still trying to figure out whether the Joan Osborne that played on Sunday night was the same one of early 90s fame with “If God Was One of Us”. I did not have a chance to confirm this in person. The festival continues today.
As far as I know there’s only one Joan Osborne. You can also see her in the 2002 documentary Standing in the Shadows of Motown.
She is one and the same. More recently (than the 90’s, at least) she has performed with Motown’s The Funk Brothers. I believe since then she has become more attached to Detroit. I was slightly dissapointed to find she wasn’t performing with the Funk Brothers, who were on stage Friday night.
I had no clue. Thanks for solving the mystery.
