Had to laugh. . .

Political cartoon in today’s Detroit News. The Three Little Pigs are standing in the doorway of their house and the Big Bad Wolf is outside with a mortgage in hand.

The caption reads, ” I was going to huff and puff but the price dropped so much, I just decided to buy it,” Now that’s funny. . .

It’s kind of funny, but kind of not funny. How many people really understood what they were getting into when they signed that mortgage for their house in Metro Detroit with firms like Rock Financial? How many of those people just lost their “secure” job with Ford last week? How many more are going to lose their jobs with other manufacturing firms as a result?

As the “housing bubble” continues to burst, how many people with McMansions are going to be forced into financial ruin? How many families are going to fall apart?

I know this isn’t what you are saying, but I get so irritated with the “suburban people get what they deserve!” attitude I get in this town. We’re *all* Detroiters, whether you’re my neighbor in midtown or you live out on 26 mile and Schoenherr. We’re all in this together and the personal tragedies that are going to happen as the housing market falls and unemployment rate increases are going to be sad.
