A Woman at War: Marlene Dietrich Remembered
So is the title of the newest publication from Wayne State University Press by J. David Riva. During the Second World War, Marlene Dietrich rallied and entertained American troops in Germany. During this time, Professor Guy Stern – now at Wayne State University – was her Jeep driver and Riva’s father is a Wayne State University Alum. Riva, Dietrich’s grandson, is the editor of this collection of interviews and essays on his grandmother, among which Cher and Burt Bacharach are included. In honor of the publication the Press and the Friends of the Detroit Film Theatre are hosting a reception at the DIA/DFT. There will be a screening of “The Blue Angel” that night. Even if you cannot make the reception, there will be general DFT tickets available at the DFT Box Office.
