Loren Estleman books

Mollika and I were talking yesterday about Loren Estleman, a popular Michigan author known for his crime novels and westerns.

Estleman wrote 7 books as part of his ‘Detroit Series’ and has also written 18 books centered on Detroit PI Amos Walker and thought it might be cool to read one of the books from either series for a book club we are involved in.

Have you read one of Estelman’s Detroit Series or Amos Walker books? We would love to hear your opinions and find out whether either of these series can be started in the middle – some of the books are now out of print – or if it is a better idea to start with book one.

I own about 30 of Estleman’s books, counting his Westerns, and I strongly recommend them. I think the Amos Walker series has surpassed Robert Parker’s Spenser novels as the best mysteries out there.

If you are going to read the Detroit Series, start with Whiskey River, but there’s no real reason to read them in order after that.

You can start reading the Amos Walker books anywhere.
