DPM Expansion

Employers from the Woodward Corridor hope to raise $200K to study a privately funded expansion of the Detroit Piople Mover to connect downtown to the New Center.

One of the best achievments of the Coleman Young administration was the building of the DPM. Nobody wanted it, least of all the City Council. So, in keeping with his syle, he got it built despite them and it is still, today, one of the most advanced, fully automated, steel wheel rail systems in the world.

The expansion would extend the tracks three miles up the corridor from its current one way loop. This project would promote city growth and bring current and new emplyees and residents not to mention the attraction to Wayne State students and Henry Ford patients and faculty.

I ride the People Mover every day. Unlike all the rumors about the “People Mugger”, it is very safe and a great way for out of towners to get an elevated view of the D.’ Expansion of this light rail system is a good idea and a long time coming.
