Our Favorite Tigers of All Time #11: Jack Morris

Starting this second, we are going to count down our favorite Detroit Tigers players of all time. Therefore, without further ado, I am starting at number 11 because I don’t think he should be in the top 10 but he was a fun guy.

Name: “Crybaby” John Scott “Jack” Morris
Quote: “I don’t talk to women unless they’re on top of me or I’m on top of them.” (questionable, yet humorous)
Years with the Tigers: 1977 – 1990
World Series Rings with the Tigers: 1 in 1984
Where is he today?: He is owns a company that sells “Jack Morris Signature” outdoor gear
Why, oh why did you pick him?

My fondest memory of Jack Morris from my childhood is my parents telling me not cry like Jack Morris after I had lost a game in little league. Jack was a really competitive guy. Nonetheless, he had a great season in 1984 throwing a no-hitter and winning two World Series games. He was an all-star five times and had some great seasons in 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986 and 1987.

His ERA was never really spectacular and he’s probably not Hall of Fame material (but not out of the running yet). The Internet also tells me that he was the winningest pitcher of the 1980s which makes sense, but he was pretty healthy and had a great offense behind him the early to mid 1980s.
