Pappys

Last night for the Tigers game I headed downtown with a friend, parked in Cobo and walked to Greektown. We wanted to go to the Old Shillelagh in Greektown but it was packed and had a line out the door at 6. We walked further down Monroe and the bar at Pizzapapalis was packed as well. We decided to walk back and found a not-too-busy Pappy’s Sportsbar and Grill. We got lucky and got two spots at the bar about 2 feet away from the beer taps and about 10 feet away from the two giant plasma screens. Once the game started the place got packed, so we really lucked out.

9 innings, a pretzel tower, and an uncertain number of $4.72 Stellas later, the Tigers lost, but hey, there’s still tonight, right?

my bad…

in the first game of the Yankees series i forgot to wear my Tigers hat and they got spanked… i wore my Tigers hat for the rest of their playoff games and then they never lost… today i simply forgot to put it on when getting ready… the result: they get spanked by the Cards…

you better believe i’m wearin’ the hat tomorrow… am i superstitious??? i suppose so… anyone else have any Tigers superstitions???

Our Favorite Tigers of All Time: Sparky Anderson

Name: George Lee Anderson, aka “Sparky“, aka “Captain Hook”
Primary position: Manager
Years with the Tigers: 1979-1995
Quote:“No manager ever won no ballgames.”
Where is he now? Sparky lives in Arizona and, among other endeavors, tours the country appearing at special or corporate events as a public speaker. Tomorrow, he’ll be in Detroit to throw out the first pitch in Game 2 of the Wolrd Series.

Fighter Jets over Detroit (again)

Wow, the skies above downtown have really been abuzz this morning! In the last hour, I’ve seen jets buzz downtown about a dozen times flying below the clouds. They’re flying really low, my windows rattle whenever they fly by – the sound of these jets is so powerful.

My Tiger, Justin Verlander is starting today, the opening game of the 2006 World Series. About 45,000 people will be going to this game and, if you think about it, that’s alot of hot dogs.

Today’s The Day…

22 years ago this month, I remember watching Larry Herndon catch the final out in the World Series, wishing so badly I could be there. It broke my heart to think the celebration would go on without me — but at that time in my life, as a 15-year-old from the suburbs, my parents forbid me to go to Detroit. At all. Period.

Let me repeat that: I was not allowed to go into the City of Detroit.

My, how things have changed.

Our Favorite Tigers of All Time #6: Willie Horton

While researching this entry, I did a quick google search for Willie Horton and came up with the wikipedia page on Willie Horton. He’s a convicted felon who was part of the 1988 Presidential Election. Fortunately, that’s not our Willie Horton. Our Willie Horton had a great career with the tigers and fell just short of a career 2000 hits. Read past the jump for more.

D-lightful

OldeEnglish%20D.jpg
Here it is, ladies and gents.

I took this picture around 9:15 tonight; it is the window-side of the building that faces north.

The opposite side of the building still sports the pink ribbon, which to me, is a nice compromise.

Go Tigers!
