I must apologize to Mitch Albom and his publicists. Earlier this year I was poking fun at the fact that his Detroit stop on his book tour missed the city by a few miles and ended up in Bloomfield Hills’ Starbucks. What I didn’t know was that he launched his book “For One More Day” here in Detroit at the Fox Theater where he was joined by Tony Bennet and Hank Azaria to raise almost $100,000 for his charity that helps the homeless of Detroit, according to Publishers Weekly.

I always like web sites that are fun to visit. If you hate your job or know someone who does, there is help for you. This site gives people a place to vent about their worst jobs and surprisingly, phychologists say this can be therapeutic.

Like to sing? Got voice? Nothing puts you in the Christmas spirit like caroling on a crisp winter night and I have just the place for you.
It’s the 34th annual Noel Night in the D’. Located primarily between Cass and John R. and Kirby and Willis, it will include horse drawn carriage rides, holiday shopping, family crafts and performances by over 70 area music and dance groups. Now that sounds like a lot of fun to me and my twin granddaughters, Tara and Taylor. We’ll see you there!

“Crain’s Detroit Business” is seeking “American Dreamers”. In order to celebrate the vital role of immigrants in Metro-Detroit’s economy the publication is accepting nominations, including self-nominations, for successful first-generation business people. Immigrating to a country is hard enough, but immigrating and taking the risk to participate directly in a foreign economy is truly commendable. I look forward to reading the stories in March. Scroll down to the “Features” section to nominate.

With Thanksgiving upon us this coming week we are heading into the Holiday Season. Time to reflect on our blessings and get ready to celebrate Christmas and New Years. I know one woman who really has something to bring to the table this year.

If you have yet to check the news today, you are probably unaware that Bo Schembechler died this morning. Schembechler, often considered The Face of Michigan Football, was taping a TV show at WXYZ Channel 7 this morning and collapsed afterward. His doctor noted that the incident was “probably not a heart attack”, that his heart “just stopped working.”
Schembechler, a legend at U of M and in the arena of college sports, had a record of 234-65-8 during his 26 years as a coach. From 1969 – 1989, Bo’s years at Michigan, Schembechler’s record was 194-48-5. He won or tied 13 Big Ten titles, never had a losing season, and was named Big Ten Coach of the Year 7 times.
Bo’s death comes on the eve of the biggest rivalry in college sports, U of M versus Ohio State. The National Championship is on the line, and both teams are undefeated.

Last night I attended the annual Crime Stoppers Tribute Dinner at the Ritz-Carlton in Dearborn. This event honors citizens who have made enormous contributions in time and money in an effort to reduce crime and the perception of crime in Detroit and other communities.

I am an extremely lucky person to own my place in Detroit, however, in seeing others’ purchases I cannot help but be envious. This city is absolutely stunning from all angles. I love my views from the Riverfront Towers, but the Garden Court views and Harbourtown views are stunning as well. I really need to win the lottery and buy one of each to be fully satisfied.
